Reflection

This week, we were fortunate to have a guest lecture by Hal ,focused on the concept of Creative Confidence. It served as a powerful reminder that design isn't just about technical skills; it's also about cultivating a creative mindset.

Building Your Design Narrative:

The lecture began with a brief overview of the book Creative Confidence by David and Tom Kelley, a must-read for any aspiring designer. This book emphasizes the importance of understanding your own design story and using it to shape your creative journey.

Who Are We as Designers?

The guest lecturer shared a personal story, revealing a path that wasn't always linear. Originally drawn to business economics, they eventually discovered the world of design through Stanford's design thinking program. This experience highlights the importance of exploration and being open to new creative possibilities.

The Four Pillars of Creative Confidence:

The lecture identified four key aspects of developing creative confidence:

Beyond the Brainstorm:

The lecture challenged the idea of over-planning and encouraged us to take action. The concept of a "do something mindset" emphasizes the importance of getting started and learning through experimentation.

Fearless Experimentation:

Art and Fear by David Bayles and Ted Orland was also mentioned as a valuable resource on overcoming creative fear. The lecture highlighted the importance of experimentation and embracing failure as a stepping stone on the path to creative growth.

Embrace Your Creative Confidence:

This guest lecture served as a powerful reminder that creative confidence is a journey, not a destination. By nurturing these key skills and fostering a positive growth mindset, you can unlock your full creative potential and become a truly confident UX designer.
